tooth whitening
Tooth whitening is a very popular aesthetic procedure which brightens your smile without causing any tooth destruction.
Foods, drinks, social habits, trauma and genetic factors can all lead to discoloured teeth. However there may be something that can be done to help you brighten your smile.
Tooth whitening only works on natural teeth. Dentures, crowns, veneers and fillings will not whiten with this treatment. However this does not mean that whitening cannot be done to help your natural teeth better match denture or restored teeth.
We use a type of whitening technique called ‘dentist-supervised home whitening’. The advantage of this type of whitening is that it allows each person to have a greater control over the final outcome of their whitening.
The dentist will evaluate your teeth and mouth to make sure you are suitable for whitening and ensure your mouth is stable before whitening treatment is started. Your dentist will make you an unobtrusive whitening tray after taking impressions. The dentist will provide you with whitening gel to be used in the whitening tray together with a routine to follow at home.
The duration of the treatment depends on how discoloured your teeth are and the shade you want to get to. The whitening gel is applied daily. Tooth whitening takes on average between two to four weeks to complete and can whiten the natural colour of your teeth by several shades.
